Retired LSCO President Dr. Michael Shahan was not injured in a crash Sunday afternoon even though the pickup truck he was driving rolled over and landed on the roof.
His 2018 Ford F150 pickup truck collided with a 2016 Chrysler 200 passenger car at the intersection of Edgar Brown Drive at Bluebonnet Drive. The crash was about 1:30 p.m.
Orange police report the truck was traveling east in the center lane of Edgar Brown while the Chrysler was going south on Bluebonnet. The collision caused the truck to roll over.
The Chrysler was driven by 21-year-old Ty Tiana Broughton of Orange. She and her 18-year-old passenger, Malaysia Amos of Orange, were also uninjured.
Police said both drivers thought they had a green light. No witnesses saw the light, so no ticket was issued.
The rollover was not the only one in Orange during the long Thanksgiving holiday period.
Early Saturday morning a Little Cypress couple escaped serious injury when their pickup overturned and landed on the roof. The driver was trying to get onto an Interstate 10 entrance ramp that was closed because of construction.
Orange police went to the 800 block of South Lutcher Drive at 2:20 a.m. Saturday. The patrol officer reported the 2005 Silverado Chevrolet was traveling on the outside lane of the frontage road. The inside lane was closed and marked with reflective barrels.
The driver was 43-year-old man Jason E. Smith. He told the officer he thought the entrance was open. Police said the truck went over into the inside lane and then lost control. The truck went off the roadway and rolled over. The man and his passenger, 40-year-old Jennifer Ann Smith, had minor injuries, according to police.
Early Thursday morning, a vehicle went off North Highway 87 and ran off into a yard, damaging trees, a flower bed, and sod. The driver, 22-year-old Jorden Shyanee Bass of Buna, had minor injuries.
Police report the accident was about 3 a.m. in the 9200 block of North Highway 87. A 2015 Chevrolet Trax was traveling northbound. The vehicle went off to the went and into the yard.
