Jack Dallas struck out 11 as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs held off the Bridge City Cardinals 4-3 on Senior Night. After Dallas ran out of pitches, Ryan Ragsdale came in and struck out the final two batters for the save.
Dallas, and brother Chad both had RBI doubles in the first inning. The Mustangs (8-0) scored two more in the second inning on three Cardinal errors. BC (3-5) scored one in the second after a double steal scored Brady Coulter who walked to get on base. Dallas got into trouble with two walks and a hit batter in the fourth and an error brought two home to make 4-3. Dallas and Ragsdale retired the next 11 for the win.

The Orangefield Bobcats jumped out to an early four-run lead and then held on for dear life Tuesday night. The Bobcats edged the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 4-3 at Don Gibbens Field.
Orangefield (4-4) clinched a spot in the postseason if Silsbee defeats Hamshire-Fannett Wednesday night. The Bobcats would have a three-game lead over both Little Cypress-Mauriceville (1-7) and Hamshire-Fannett with just two games remaining in district.
All the Bobcats’ runs came in the first two innings. Kent Michael lined an opposite field two-out, two-run single to right in the first inning to score Ryon Stubblefield and Johnny Armstrong which gave Orangefield a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second Stubblefield hit his second double in as many at bats after two were out to start the rally. Armstrong walked for the second straight time. Brett Fregia then drew a walk off LC-M starting pitcher Truman Franklin to load the bases. Mason Gonzales reached on an error by the Bears’ third baseman as both Stubblefield and Armstrong scored again to make it 4-0.
Bouncing back in the bottom half of the inning the Bears cut the lead in half with a pair of runs. Trace Leblanc led off with a walk. Taylor Gilbert got a one-out single. With two down Jordan Alexander hit a single to right center field to score Leblanc. Gilbert scored when the Bobcats’ third baseman made an error on a grounder by Seth Dronet.
The bull pen for the Bears shutdown the Bobcats for the remainder of the game. Gilbert pitched one and two/third scoreless innings, Reagan Burdette threw two shutout frames, and Brett Bell retired all three Orangefield batters he faced in the seventh inning.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville scored again in the fifth to make it 4-3. Michael Lee started the inning when he was hit by a pitch. Franklin was safe on an infield single, his second of three hits on the night. After a passed ball moved the runners to third and second Leblanc hit a grounder to first Fregia making the out unassisted during which pinch runner Brett Burrows scored.
Stubblefield started on the mound for Orangefield and pitched into the sixth inning before his pitch count forced him to move to shortstop. Armstrong came in from centerfield to take over with Bears at first and second and just one out. Armstrong got a pop to first for the second out and then struck out the dangerous Lee to end the threat.
In the seventh LC-M to did not go quietly into the night. Franklin led off with his third hit and took second on a throwing error by the Bobcats’ third baseman. Armstrong made a nice play on an attempted bunt catching the ball before it hit the ground and his throw to second just missed doubling up Franklin. A groundout to third moved Franklin as the tying run to third with two outs. Reid Saperstein was hit by a pitch to represent the possible winning run at first. Max Dileo came to bat as a pinch hitter for the Bears. Armstrong struck him out to earn the save and the win for Orangefield.
Friday night the Bobcats play the undefeated West Orange-Stark Mustangs at Orangefield. Tuesday night was Senior Night for the Bears as they close out the season on the road. Friday night Little Cypress-Mauriceville travels to Silsbee to face the Tigers and then close out the district at Hamshire-Fannett next Tuesday.
