The Bridge City Cardinals took advantage of turnovers to rally in the second half and beat the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 50-47 in the Bear Cave Tuesday night. The victory was the district opener for the Cardinals, the Bears are 1-1 in district with the loss.
Trailing by nine points after a basket by the Bears Bridge City went on a roll and would outscore LC-M 16-6 over the final seven minutes of the third quarter to take a 40-39 advantage into the fourth quarter. Giveaways proved costly for the Bears in the third quarter as they turned the ball over 5 times to just one by the Cardinals.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville retook the lead again early in the fourth quarter until Ryan Mirabella nailed a three-point basket to give the Cardinals a lead they would never relinquish 43-41 with 6:49 to play. Mirabella was the high scorer for Bridge City with 15 points including 7 points from the free throw line. Also scoring in double figures for the Cardinals were Justyn Romero and Graydon Glover both with 10 points.
The Bears went on a run of their own in the second quarter scoring 12 straight points to take a 31-22 lead and led 31-24 at the half. Ayson Simmons made a big contribution to the run tallying 7 points in the quarter including a three-pointer. JaColven Provost came off the bench to score all 7 of his points for the game in the frame. Katon Brown had a game high 17 points for LC-M.

The BC Lady Cardinals pulled off the upset Tuesday, knocking off LCM 38-31. The Cards improve to 1-2 (11-14) and LCM falls to 2-2.
The BC freshmen won 43-11 and the LCM JV won 29-20.
Orangefield Lady Bobcats defeated Hardin-Jefferson 45-33 to improve to 4-1 in district and 17-7 overall. For OF: Sabryn Crain 4 points and 6 rebounds; Hanna Lowe 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals; Bethany Green 12 points and 4 rebounds; Emmi Lummus 5 points, 3 assists, 8 rebounds.
OF boys lost to H-J 98-45.
