BC Coach Chad Landry and LCM Coach Steve Griffith share a laugh with the umpires before Tuesday’s game.
Bridge City shutout LCM 5-0 to improve to 3-0 in district. Peyton Havard had a no hitter going into the seventh inning when Slade Green singled. Havard finished with a one hitter, three walks, and six strikeouts to improve his record to 4-2. Truman Franklin (5-1) suffered his first loss. He was pulled for Taylor Gilbert in the fourth, giving up two runs on five hits with one walk. BC’s final three runs were scored without a hit. Caleb Dubois went 3-4 at the plate and Schuyler Thibodaux was 2-3. The two play again Thursday at LCM.
WOS (1-2) beat Hamshire Fannett (0-3) 7-0. Chad Dallas struck out 14 in the victory. Jacob Dominguez was 2-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s. The two teams are scheduled to meet in Hamshire on Thursday.
The Orangefield Bobcats rode the strong pitching of Blake Bradley to remain undefeated in district action. The Bobcats defeated the Silsbee Tigers 8-2 Tuesday night at Paul Cormier Field in Orangefield.
Bradley pitched a complete game to earn the win. He gave up five hits, walked one, and struck out seven for the Bobcats. Both the runs scored against Bradley were aided by Orangefield errors.
The Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Mason Gonzales led off the inning with a base hit to right. Bradley hit a ground ball to shortstop for a force out on Gonzales. The throw to try to turn a double play was wild and Bradley went to second base.
Kadeon Evans grounded to short as well with Bradley moving to third. Gunner Jones hit a slow grounder down the third base line. The Tigers fielded the ball, but had no play on Jones who legged it out for an infield single and a run batted in.
In the third inning Orangefield scored four big runs. Ryan Deutsch was robbed of a hit by a great fielding play by the Silsbee second baseman to start the inning. Kaiden Dubose walked on a 3-2 pitch. It would be the first of four walks in the inning for the Bobcats.
Johnny Armstrong ripped a triple into the gap in right center scoring Dubose to make the score 2-0. Three bases on balls and an error by the Tigers plated two more runs. Evans grounded out to second to bring home the final run of the inning giving Orangefield a 5-0 advantage after three innings.
Silsbee got on the board with a run in the fifth using an error, a ground out, a wild pitch, and an infield single. Bradley got his sixth strike out to end the inning.
Orangefield tallied three more times in the bottom half of the inning. Gonzales started the rally with a walk before Bradley singled to left. Jones singled to center to drive in Gonzales. The throw to the plate was wild and no Tigers were backing up the play so as the ball rolled towards the Bobcat dugout Bradley also came home with Jones going all the way to third. He scored on a well-executed squeeze bunt by Deutsch to make the score 8-1.
Two Tiger singles sandwiched around a throwing error by the Bobcats loaded the bases for Silsbee in the sixth. A sacrifice fly brought in the last run of the game.
The win by Orangefield keeps the Bobcats in a first-place tie with the Bridge City Cardinals who also won Tuesday night. The Bobcats (3-0) and the Tigers (0-3) are scheduled to play again Thursday night in Silsbee weather permitting.
