On February 25, 2025 at about 10:30 am a truck-tractor with an oversized load left IP Way and turned south onto Highway 87. The load began to pull residential utility service lines from homes as the load continued south. At the Little Cypress Bayou crossing the load caught a large utility line pulling it into to the ground, breaking a utility pole, and disrupting utility service to about 800 homes in the Little Cypress area, according to Entergy.
Both Entergy and Spectrum responded immediately and began work restoring service to the affected area. But while attempting to bury a new pole, they struck a water line, causing more delays and many had their water turned off or had low water pressure. The city patched the line after the electrical work was done.
The Orange Police Department is investigating the crash that resulted in utility services being disrupted. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating improper permitting of the truck-tractor.
