Monday morning the Texas Travel Information Center in Orange reopened to the public. Sarah Dupre with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reported the state run travel information center on Interstate 10 opened to visitors at about 10:30 AM Monday after being closed to the public because of flooding from the Sabine River since March 13.
TxDOT re-opened the parking lot to motorists from Interstate 10 on Saturday. The picnic arbors were available for use. TxDOT has brought in portable toilets and mobile restrooms on wheels for the convenience of travelers. Even before the Sabine River flooded, the facilities’ public restrooms were closed because of a blockage in the sewer line from the center’s lift station.
Dupre indicates the center’s boardwalk over the Blue Elbow Swamp is still closed to the public. It could be re-opened shortly after it is further cleaned of debris on it from the flood waters according to Dupre.
