5pm- Update – Both lanes were reopened after TxDot removed the rest of the structure from the road.
Update: Eastbound traffic was halted after a man in a pickup ran up under an 18 wheeler and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Friday around 9:30 a.m., a trash truck struck a sign bridge on IH‑10 westbound near the Purple Heart Bridge. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is developing a plan to safely remove the damaged sign bridge.
At this time, all three main westbound lanes are closed, and the two inside lanes of IH‑10 eastbound are also shut down. It is currently estimated it will take at least four hours if not more to open all lanes.
