The Texas Travel Information Center on Interstate 10 east of Orange has been closed to the public for over two weeks. The center closed its doors as normal at 5:00 Sunday afternoon, March 13, and was not reopened because of the flood waters from the Sabine River.
As of Sunday the water has receded from the driveway and parking lot at the Travel Information Center. State Senator Robert Nichols serves on the Senate’s Transportation Committee. He is hopeful the information center will reopen this week. Nichols pointed out that the travel center is a valuable asset to Texas not only providing state tourism information and answering general travel questions it also helps provide much more as a courtesy stop for travelers. He wants to see it open as soon as the state can.
Easter Sunday was a state holiday, and the center would have been closed anyway. Sarah Dupre with the Texas Department of Transportation which operates the Travel Information Center does report that no water got into the main building which should help get it reopen quicker.
