Thomas “Tommy” Henry Carter, of Hartburg, Texas, was called home at the age of 91 on December 25, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, prior to service. Officiating will be Pastor Terry Wright. The Rites of Christian Burial will Follow at King Cemetery in Hartburg, Texas.
Tommy was born on August 13,1932 in Leggett, Texas, to Floyd and Emma Carter. He was an active member of the Hartburg Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Tommy will be remembered for his love of the Lord and his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and fellowship with family and friends. He was a Champion Pole Vaulter in Beaumont, Texas from 1948-1949 and in Vidor, Texas from 1940-1950. He and his late wife Nelda, owned and operated Tom’s Frosty Land in Deweyville, Texas. He retired as a maintenance supervisor from Firestone in Orange, Texas, in December 1986. During his lifetime he served as a Deacon at Hartburg Baptist Church. He also served on The Deweyville School Board and on The Board of Directors for Jasper Newton Electric Co-Op.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Floyd & Emma Carter; brother; Junior; sisters, Katherine and Evelyn, and his loving wife of 59 years, Nelda Lois Lobb Carter.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Richard Carter, and wife Angie, of Hartburg, Texas, and Gary Knight, and wife Barbara, of Canyon Lake, Texas; granddaughters, Misty Ray, and Husband Gary of Enterprise, Alabama, Natalie Teeples and husband Charles, of Hartburg, Texas, Rachel Leger and husband Charles Pate Leger of Hartburg, Texas; Grandson, Bradley Carter and wife Joanna of Orange, Texas; great-grandchildren, Marlee & Mason Hernandez, Cecily and Chase Ray, Seth Carter, Autumn and Bryson Bourgeois, Carter and Charlee Leger, Thomas Carter and Juliana Avila; great-grandsons, Landon Carter and Elliot McMahon Bourgeois and many friends in the community and his church family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Tommy’s Memory to Hartburg Baptist Church.
Honoring Tommy as pallbearers will be Charles “Pate” Leger, Charles Teeples, Donald Brockman, Daniel Brockman, Thomas Ashmore and Brad Hoffman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bradley Carter, Gary Knight and Carl Pope.
Funeral Services will be under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, Texas.
