Lots of things to talk about in The Juice this week and I want to start by saying Thanks again to everyone that came out to the Granger/KOGT Can Drive Thursday. Really glad to see Orangefield, LCM and WOS get involved. An extra big Thank You to Annely Domas and her students at WOSE for winning the trophy for most cans for the fifth straight year.
I’m pretty sure I set my own record at the event. A friend suggested it may be a Guinness record LOL. I interviewed 29 people in two and a half hours.
What did we learn from those interviews? Well Al Granger tells me he’s going to break some news on KOGT at the beginning of the year and it doesn’t have anything to do with the car business. I was corrected by Zane Williams that he didn’t have 17RBI’s in one game at Deweyville, he “only had 13.” Kari Busch at Golden Triangle Emergency Center may be having a Christmas baby and his name will be Tucker. Jay Delk caught his 13 pound bass at Rayburn on a Damiki Rig. Paul Burch can’t sing on command. Innovative Air’s Pelican mascot has a name and it’s Pete. Commissioner Johnny Trahan said the public didn’t understand what POD’s (Points of Distribution) were for so they’re now calling them Emergency Distribution Centers and there is one in each precinct.
Commissioner “Cowboy” Chris Sowell informed us that fat people don’t ride bulls. Pinehurst City Manager Robbie Hood said on Dec. 11 at 5:30pm Pinehurst City Hall is hosting a Christmas Tree Lighting with pictures with Santa and free goodies. Golden Triangle Polymers Plant Manager Chad Jennings said he had no idea he was going to be so involved in the community but he thinks it’s been fantastic and he appreciates the people being so receptive to GTP. And Mayor Larry Spears’ favorite Christmas movie is “White Christmas.” At least that’s what I can remember from the interviews. They’re available for viewing on the KOGT Facebook page along with a lot of pictures.

I’ll be traveling with the WOS Mustangs Friday night to their game against LaVega in the 4AD2 Region III Final, which some call the State Quarterfinals. The Mustangs played their worst game of the season against LaVega back on Sept. 12 and I just don’t see that happening again on Friday. In my opinion this is a different team and they’re peaking at the right time. Weather could be a factor. Also good luck to PNG, Newton and Memorial.
LaVega beat LaMarque 33-6 but the score is deceiving. It was 6-6 at the half! I don’t believe LaMarque had a punt longer than 20 yds. all night, giving LaVega great field position all night. And it was 33-6 with 10 minutes left in the game.
By the way, the Mustangs beat Sealy last week and I was asked why Sealy had TPW on the back of their jerseys. We had a good guess with Tiger PoWer, but actually it stands for Tough People Win. Coach Smalley had a similar saying a few years ago of TPO….Tough People Only.

I’ve covered a lot of fires in my career but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like the unfortunate fire at the El Bethel Church on December 2.
When I arrived there was smoke coming from the roof and for a minute there I thought that was all there would be. But when the fire decided to come through the roof it was like jet fuel had been poured on the building. The north wind was definitely an issue. Ninety minutes and it was gone. As bad as it was it could’ve been much worse. Thank goodness it had rained pretty much all day because before that rain we were close to another burn ban. The homes and trees in the area were covered with embers. We were told some residents on the south end left their homes in the middle of the night because the smoke was so bad.

I’ve got a pretty good confirmation that the new business coming to the old Carl Jr’s location on Strickland Drive is a restaurant called the Twisted Egg Shack. Their slogan is Premium Breakfast , Brunch and Mimosa’s! They have a location in Beaumont and their menu could ruin my latest diet. Pancake donut holes with icing…OMG. I’m sure there are healthy options but my eyes seem to gravitate to the good stuff.

Congrats to country singer Neal McCoy, who has been the featured entertainer twice at Bassmasters on the Sabine River and will perform in March at The Oaks in Vidor. He is going to be inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth. The Hall really is for cowboys but they have inducted a good group of country singers like George Strait, Cody Johnson, Moe Bandy, Ray Benson, Bob Wills and Pat Green to name a few.

Two things I’ve learned that were reiterated for me last week. There’s no such thing as “wrinkle-free” clothes and there’s no such thing as “one coat paint.”
Have a great weekend and Go Mustangs!
