I want to start by thanking Byron Chism for being my guest on the Behind The Mic Podcast. If you haven’t paid attention Byron is a WOS graduate who created the world famous Bad Byron’s Butt Rub. It’s such a versatile seasoning and you can put it on a lot of things. I like it on my eggs. He has a great story that started on Edgemont Drive. Shoutout to the Class of 1980 who had their reunion recently.
Here’s another reminder about the Annual KOGT/Team Granger Can Drive that will happen the morning of December 4. We call it the “Fastest Fundraiser in Texas” because it’s about three hours long so everyone can go about their day. It’ll be at Granger Chevrolet like it’s always been and we have elves on hand to take your canned goods out for you so you can drive in and out, unless of course you want to get out and hang out. I’ll be on Facebook Live talking to people. And if your business or organization is having an event, bring your canned goods and we’ll interview you and let you promote your event also. It’s a win-win and all of the food stays here in Orange County. So please come see us from 7am-10am on Dec. 4.

Casey Peveto shared a map with me and I wanted to share with the Juicers. I’ve heard several stories over the years about the 1957 tornado that came through Orange. In fact Mags wrote one for KOGT on the 60th Anniversary.
It occurred Nov. 7, 1957 and registered as an F4 on the Fujita Scale. It’s the strongest to come through Southeast Texas. It traveled 13 miles and destroyed approximately 180 homes, most in the Riverside area. They reported nine ships and three barges being torn from their moorings. Two people were killed. Here is a map of the path from Tornado Talk.

A free plug for the Bigfoot Symposium at Toledo Bend, Dec. 6-7. That’s right. With all of the cellphone cameras and 4K video cameras people still believe the beast exists but all we see is grainy video. But hey, whatever gets you off. If I still believe the Cowboys can win the Super Bowl, who am I to say there’s no bigfoot!
I’ve fished in the back of many coves in TBend by myself and think that I’ve seen something but it never is. However I have seen two old naked people. True story. Old is defined as older than me.
Me and my nephew were in the back of a slough throwing frogs and he calmly says, “What do we have here.” A man walked out on the back porch of his single wide bare ass naked and got into a hot tub. Just about the time we got over seeing that here comes the female. Needless to say we slowly trolled out of there and that area of water now has a new name.

If you saw the beginning of the West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh game you probably saw an interview with Tony Dorsett and Aaron Donald. It was sad to watch Dorsett, one of my all-time favorite Cowboys, struggle through the interview after being diagnosed with CTE. He couldn’t put a sentence together and really had me wondering why ESPN would put him in that situation. Maybe they put him on without knowing.

I just finished putting another busy Football Friday night to bed. I’m so happy for Bridge City and West Orange-Stark for advancing to the third round. I’m even more happy for the coaches. Those guys put in a lot of time and go through a lot of emotions in a season.
BC Coach/AD Josh Smalley wanted to “come home” to try to get the Cardinals back on track after some pretty dismal years in almost all sports. In two years they’ve won 18 games and counting, added their first district title since 2016, and saw their baseball and girls basketball team reach the state semifinals last season. The culture has changed and it started with hiring him.
Coach Hiawatha Hickman walked into a tough situation that many would have turned down. He’s been through some growing pains as a first time head coach, and now he’s reached the second round two straight years and has a chance to get to the fourth round.
And although the Orangefield Bobcats came up short against #1 Franklin, Jeff Breaux deserves props. In his first two years, he completely changed how the Bobcats run the offense and defense and has won 19 games and a district title. Our athletes are in good hands with these guys as well as our other Athletic Directors in Orange County.
