Writing “The Juice” this week on a Thursday night and the KOGT Mardi Gras Treasure has still not been found. I expect it to be found early Friday morning but we’ll have to wait and see.
While creating the clues for the Treasure Hunt can be as nerve-wracking as looking for it, it has always been a lot of fun. Especially how someone found the treasure because sometimes they got there a different way than the clues intended.
This is my second year to create the treasure clues myself following the retirement of the cluemaster Dan Perrine. Dan would think about clues and a place to hide the treasure throughout the year. So far, I’ve been a “lock myself in a room for a day or two and figure it out.” Then critique the hell out of it until I’m happy or give up.
Finding a place to hide it is difficult and sometimes picking the right time to hide it is just as tough. I want to share a story with you about this year’s treasure but I guess I better wait until next week so I can give you the whole story.
It’s Mardi Gras week in Orange and unfortunately we’re having to deal with inclement weather. First the free Dow concert on Thursday was not cancelled, just postponed to another date. The band Paper Chase was really good the last time they were here so hopefully Dow will pick another date where the weather will cooperate.
Thursday afternoon the city cancelled their Friday event, which included the Munchkin Parade and a DJ. The Chambers Krewe of Krewe’s parade would’ve love to have that slot considering Saturday’s forecast but we’ll just have to hope for a dry window, and of course for you guys to show up so we’re not just throwing beads on the street.
Was glad to announce this week that Dr. Wendy Elmore will take over for the retiring Dr. J at LSCO. She knows the campus and I believe she will continue moving the college forward. We’re so fortunate to have LSCO in Orange.
There are a lot of other things going on this weekend. The Hamfest is at the Expo Center. The Memorial for Mr. Andrew Hayes is also Saturday. Baseball/Softball Tournaments in BC and WOS are running Thursday – Saturday (weather willing). Both BC basketball teams have playoff games Friday.
The BC girls are in the fourth round and they’re a special group and should be around for a while with their youth. They face Hamshire-Fannett for a spot in the 4AD2 semifinals. With the UIL splitting the other sports into two divisions like football, it’s no longer the final four going to Austin, or in this case, San Antonio. So to actually make it to State, they’ll have to win the next two. And they can.
Several of you have asked about our next podcast and we’re hoping for a special guest sometime this weekend. And we are going to reschedule with Mayor Larry Spears.
Have a great weekend!
