Southeast Texas has had its share of weather-related disasters in the past few years. This weekend, people in Texas can stock up on emergency supplies without paying the sales tax.
The state comptroller has set a tax-free weekend beginning today and running through Sunday for the purchase of emergency preparedness supplies.
The purchases allowed will include portable generators priced less than $3,000; batteries, fuel containers and flashlights less than $75; hurricane shutters and emergency ladders less than $300 and first aid kits.
There is no limit on the purchase of those items.
However these items will not qualify: chainsaws; batteries for cars, boats and other vehicles; camp stoves and camping supplies.
A complete list of the tax free items is listed on the comptroller’s website.
