Our beloved Nanny, Susan Elizabeth Sharp, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2026, passing peacefully and surrounded by love. She is now in glory, free from pain and no longer suffering here on earth. She had a great sense of humor, and the fact that she passed on New Year’s Day feels fitting—almost like she did it on purpose so we could always pop fireworks in remembrance of her.
Susan was the heart of our family. She was sweet, kind, and wise, and always seemed to know exactly what to say—even if she said it a little sharp, which just happened to be her last name. And on the days she chose not to say a word at all, she could still let you know she disagreed with one perfectly sharp look. Those who knew her best knew exactly what that look meant.
She loved Dr. Pepper, Reese’s candy, and her faithful little dog, Buster, who was never far from her side.
She was a simple woman who lived a full life. Susan graduated from Lufkin High School and spent many years as a seamstress and caregiver. She loved sitting by the water and fishing, and her home was a safe place for so many. She was a keeper of secrets, a listening ear, and a steady presence. Her door was never locked, and everyone was welcome—she never met a stranger. You could often find her in her recliner doing crossword puzzles, working on her computer, or watching westerns or action movies. She always carried a coin purse and loved handing out coins or snacks to her grandkids.
Life asked a lot of Susan, but she carried it with strength. She didn’t bend easily, and she never quit.
She is survived by her son, Donald Glenn Fredregill; her daughters Fatima Debra Ann Vann Farooki (husband Kalim Ahmed Farooki), Delitha Gene Hogg (husband Carl Hogg), and Demetra Lee Fredregill; and her son-in-law Jody Channell. She is also survived by her brothers Sammy E. Sharp and James Sharp (wife Elaine Sharp).
Susan leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom were a constant joy in her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her little dog, Buster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Brightman Sharp and Sudie Mary Sharp (Greer); her siblings Ann Sharp, Charles B. Sharp Jr. (Buddy), and Mary Jane Sharp; her children Donna Gwen Vann, David Lynn Fredregill, and Dedra Lynne Channell; her grandson Richard Gene McMullen; her granddaughter Tammy Michelle Vann; and her best friend, Barbara Watts (Bob).
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice, especially her aide Mika, whose kindness, compassion, and care went above and beyond and will never be forgotten.
Susan will be missed, remembered, and forever held close in the hearts of those who knew her. Nanny had a way of making people feel loved and seen. Her strength, compassion, and humor shaped generations, but today we find comfort knowing she is at peace, reunited with loved ones, and resting in the presence of God.
