Shane Stutler of Orange received his GED (General Equivalency Diploma) on Tuesday from Lamar State College Port Arthur. It came with a story.
Stutler, 68, had applied for work with the Texas Department Criminal Justice as a prison guard. He produced his GED as part of the application process but the prison system said the GED wasn’t real.
Stutler left high school early for the Marines and completed his GED when he got out but the paperwork was lost over the years.
He said earned a GED from a business school years ago, only to find out it wasn’t valid.
The TDCJ said they would wait for Stutler to get his GED from LSCPA and now he is ready to work. Congratulations Mr. Stutler!
Also congratulations go out to Angelia Robinson. Robinson left Orangefield High before graduation but realized the importance of getting her GED. She also walked across the stage Tuesday.
But when she walked off the stage, she approached her brother Jose, and took off her cap and gown and put it on him and encouraged him to do the same. Jose hopes to walk across the same stage soon.
