Have yourself a day, Ella Stephenson.
The Angelina College freshman out of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School – her head coach’s alma mater – put on a show on Friday, leading the Lady Roadrunners to an 8-4, 6-1 sweep of Kilgore College Friday at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the AC campus.
Stephenson homered twice in the doubleheader while also picking up the pitching win in the nightcap.
In the opener, Stephenson’s three-run shot fueled an eight-run inning for the Lady Roadrunners. Katherine Page, Mallory Dunn and Molly McCormack also drove in runs for AC, while pitcher Jaycee Knighton tossed a complete game win in the circle, finishing with seven strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Stephenson hit a solo shot in the fourth inning as part of AC’s four-run inning. In the circle, Stephenson allowed just one earned run while striking out three Lady Rangers.
The sweep over Kilgore extended the Lady ‘Runners win streak to four games after Wednesday’s doubleheader wins at Navarro College. AC took those games by final scores of 7-3 and 8-3 in Corsicana.
The Lady Roadrunners (5-9) will travel to Mount Pleasant on Wednesday to face Northeast Texas Community College in a doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. start. (AC Athletics)
