
Stephen “Horse” Starring, 64, of Orange, Texas, passed away on October 18, 2025, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on July 30, 1961, he was the son of William Starring and Barbara (Colman) Starring. He was known to many as an outspoken individual with a big personality, always ready to share his thoughts with those around him. Stephen was fondly known as “Pawpaw” by his grandchildren, a name that reflected the warmth he brought to his family. He enjoyed a successful six-season career in the NFL, playing as a wide receiver and return specialist for the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One of his proudest moments came when he played in Super Bowl XX for the Patriots. Stephen was also recognized for his achievements in college football, having been inducted into the McNeese Hall of Fame in 2000 after his time as a quarterback for the McNeese Cowboys. In addition to football, Stephen cherished his hobbies of golfing and fishing, often finding joy in these pastimes. Family and friends will remember him not only for his accomplishments but also for the laughter and memories he shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Barbara Starring.
He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Alonda Starring; children, Damond, Diamend, Tara, and Angelica; Mariana, Maverick, Madeline, Shyne, Sayir, and Stella; siblings, Stephanie Hardy and Royce Starring; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
