Groundbreaking for a one-of-a-kind school playground was done in May at Little Cypress Intermediate School (LCI). With the start of the school year just weeks away the local play area is nearly complete.
Kelly Meadows with the Little Cypress-Mauriceville School District is the project coordinator for Stay and Play which will be an all inclusive playground at the LCI school campus. Meadows is excited that Stage 2 of Stay and Play is progressing beautifully for the new school year. The poured in place rubber safety surface has been laid and the inclusive play ground equipment has been installed. Meadows exclaimed, “We’ll soon be ready for the children to come play.”
Work will continue this week and next to have the play area ready for the start of school classes later this month. The raised grass area at the north end of Stay and Play is scheduled to be added in the next week. Meadows informed that a triple shoot-out game, a drum-panel-drum-kit area, and a picnic table will be in that area. When that area is completed a fence will enclose the playground and an additional gate added.
Fund raising for Stage 3 has begun which will include security cameras, a pavilion over the poured rubber area, and signs identifying donors as well as describing the facilities in the play area. Meadows indicated Stay and Play will be made available to families in the area on certain weekends to bring their special kids to enjoy the unique playground.
