St. Mary School in Orange, which has been educating students for over 100 years, has announced today that they will close at the end of the school year.
Bishop David Toups said in a statement to the St. Mary community, “It is with a very heavy heart that I write to share this news of our school’s closure at the end of this academic year. The parents of St. Mary Catholic School have placed their trust in our school, and to you I am most especially grateful, and with you I grieve over this news. I remain proud of the 100-year history of St. Mary and rejoice in each student who had the privilege to study here. We will now shift our focus to the long-term support of our students and families. We want to take care of our St. Mary students by offering a half-tuition scholarship to any of our Catholic Pre-K through gth grade schools in the diocese for the duration of their elementary education. Likewise, out of care for our teachers and staff, they will be made aware of open positions in our Catholic school system so that they can apply.”
