A trial that began Monday, ended Friday with Joel Sonnier being sentenced to 60 years in prison for killing his grandmother.
Sonnier, 35, was arrested on Thursday, September 19, 2024, for the murder of Janette Carney. Carney’s body was discovered inside her apartment on June 10, 2020.
Carney, 78, was found in her Citrus Cove Apartment after officers met with a concerned family member after they were not able to contact her.
The case was heard in Judge Rex Peveto’s 163rd District Court.
