Orange police arrested a 53-year-old West Orange man for aggravated robbery soon after a surveillance video from a motel was released Tuesday. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said someone recognized the man on the video and notified OPD. Ross Smith, who lives on Austin Street in West Orange was arrested at 4 Tuesday afternoon and is in the Orange County Jail. Police reported a man was at the Executive Inn on 27th Street off Interstate 10 about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The man used a large kitchen knife to try to rob the clerk, but the clerk locked himself in an inner office. The clerk left through a back door, went to a room and had the guest call police. The robber drove away and was gone when police arrived.
