“We’ve been dogs chasing cars all year and we finally caught one,” said WOS Coach Cornel Thompson after the Mustangs defeat in the Region III Final Friday.
A hard fought first half that saw a 14-14 tie with Silsbee, turned into a game that you had to see or hear to believe.
WOS seemed to have control of the game after outscoring Silsbee 14-3 in the third to take a 28-17 lead in the fourth quarter.
All the Tigers had to do in the fourth quarter was fake a punt on 4th and 14 for a first, kick a 48 yd. field goal, hold the Mustangs to two three and out series on offense, score two touchdowns, and score two points on a tipped pass.
They did.
It’s the second straight year the Tigers have knocked the Mustangs out of the playoffs in the fourth round.
WOS ends the season 10-2 while Silsbee improves to 9-5 and will play Wimberley in the 4A D2 Semifinals next week in Katy.
Wimberley beat Navarro 42-12 in Region 4. Midland Greenwood nipped Iowa Park 36-33 in Region 1 and Pleasant Grove pummeled Gilmer 55-21.
