People traveling on the east section of Sikes Road should be getting a smoother surface soon.
Orange Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the city council is set to award a contract for more roadwork during the first meeting in March. Sikes Road will be the first on the contractor’s list to fix.
The city has a repaving project for almost two dozen streets. Sikes Road was supposed to be fixed last year with the other streets north of Interstate 10.
Wolf said when the contractor started work, they discovered a sewer line had caved in. The city had to repair the line before the repaving could begin. The line is now repaired.
The city has received bids for repaving the section of Sikes Road added to the list of the streets south of Interstate 10. Wolf said Sikes is to be first.
