
Shirley Jean Latham, a cherished member of her community and a beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Humble, Texas, at the age of 88. She was born on December 1, 1936, in Dexter, lowa, where her journey began as a vibrant spirit destined to touch lives of many.
Shirley’s career spanned a variety of roles showcasing her dynamism and resilience. A retired courier, she also dedicated many years to U.S. Homes as a housekeeper and ran fireworks stands, displaying her extraordinary ability to manage both a household and a business with grace and skill.
A lifelong member of the Sanctuary Church in Cleveland, Texas, Shirley was known for her unwavering faith and commitment to serving others. She shared her knowledge and passion for the scriptures as a Sunday School Teacher at Channelview Tabernacle in Channelview, Texas. Her dedication as a faithful servant of the Lord inspired countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on her church community.
In addition to her deep spiritual life, Shirley had a zest for adventure. She was an avid map lover, enjoyed fishing, and cherished the opportunity to travel, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Shirley is survived by her devoted sons: Charles Latham, Vernard Latham, William Latham and his wife Roseann, alongside her daughter, Marilyn Irvin. She also leaves behind her brothers, David House and his wife Lori, and Donald House. In addition, Shirley is surrounded by other loving relatives and a host of friends who will remember her warmth and kindness.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James David Latham; her father, Charles House; her mother, Blanche House; her son, Chris Latham; her daughter, Carolyn Johnson; her grandson, Blaise Johnson; her sisters, Margaret Bazor and Janice House; and her son-in-law, Brian Irvin, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Latham.
The visitation for Shirley Jean Latham will take place on August 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Both events will be held at 200 S Washington Ave, Cleveland, TX 77327. Interment will follow at the Cleveland Memorial Cemetery, Hwy – 787 Easy Street, Cleveland, Texas.
