The city of Vidor and the county were the only entities in the county that had an increase in monthly and year-to-date sales tax collections.
Entities in the county that have sales taxes have been seeing decreases in sales after sales soared because of Harvey two years ago.
Imelda flooded part of the county in mid-September. The payments sent to the entities by the Texas Comptroller’s Office last week covered the month of September and the increase in Vidor and county sales could be affected. West Orange, which has a Walmart, also had an increase for the month.
Payments to the entities are:
Bridge City (1.5 percent tax): $170,000 for September compared to $173,900 for the month last year, a decrease of 2.27 percent. $1.628 million for the year to date compared to $1.683 last year, a decrease of 3.28 percent.
Orange (1.5 percent tax): $460,000 for September compared to $496,675 for the month last year, a decrease of 7.37 percent. $4.7 million for the year to date compared to $4.98 million last year, a decrease of 5.49 percent.
Pinehurst (1.5 percent tax): $49,923 for September compared to $60,637 for the month last year, a decrease of 17.66 percent. (City Administrator Robbie Hood has said the comptroller’s office has been adjusting the city’s payments because of mistakes with addresses). $612,600 for the year to date compared to $644,620 last year, a decrease of 4.97 percent.
Vidor (1.5 percent tax): $293,304 for September compared to $281,800 for the month last year, an increase of 4.08 percent. $2.963 million for the year to date compared to $2.791 million last year, an increase of 6.16 percent.
West Orange (1.25 percent tax): $106,230 for September compared to $98,000 last year, an increase of 8.40 percent. $1.08 million for the year to date compared to $1.134 million last year, a decrease of 4.64 percent.
Orange County (0.5 percent tax): $424,000 for September compared to $376,900 for the month last year, an increase of 12.51 percent. $4.89 million for the year to date compared to $4.871 last year, an increase of 0.42 percent.
Emergency Services District 3-Little Cypress Fire Department (1.5 percent tax): $16,190 for September compared to $17,790 for the month last year, a decrease of 8.98 percent. $164,180 for the year to date compared to $175,826 for last year, a decrease of 6.62 percent.
