
The largest building permit for the city of Orange in September was for a $250,000 remodeling of the former medical building at 1301 West Park Avenue. The owner, DJC Holdings, received the permit for the building, which once housed Sholars Drug Store and the medical office of the late Dr. Howard Williams. The building in the Old Orange Historic District was designed in the Mid-Century Modern style.
Other commercial permits went to restaurant owner Tony Nguyen for $48,000 worth of remodeling at Sunset Grove Country Club, 2900 Sunset Drive. Last month, a club shareholder spokesman said the clubhouse will be closed for remodeling and then open as Reel Cajun Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant is to be open to the public and not only members of the private club.
In addition, the Pilot Travel Center, 7112 Interstate 10, is getting a $175,000 renovation of its restrooms.
Repairs after Tropical Storm Harvey have slowed down a year after the devastating flood. The city of Orange issued only three building permits for Harvey home repairs in September. The Orange City Council has waived paying building permit fees for storm repairs. The one other residential remodeling permit was for $3,500 for a patio cover.
In the multi-family residential category, Oakwood Village Apartments, 1521 37th Street, got a permit for $67,800 to repair fire damage to a unit.
One permit was issued for construction of a new residence. The permit is worth $195,000 for a new house at 4403 Persimmon Drive in Cypresswood Village subdivision. The contractor is DeLeon Construction.
Three permits worth a total of $12,835 were issued for new residential storage buildings. Four permits went for residential re-roofing projects at a total of $23,745. One was related to Harvey repairs. Also, two permits for a total of $5,600 for residential concrete work.
One demolition permit was issued for a house at 5406 Knox Avenue in Navy Park.
Five fence permits worth a total of $25,600 were given for residences. In addition, a permit for a new garage worth $22,862 was issued for Dawnwood Drive.
A total of $40,480 worth of residential mechanical (air-conditioning and heating systems) were issued for eight house. One permit for a resident swimming pool valued at $27,000 was issued for a house on Memorial Drive.
