On Thursday, August 7, a VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) Measure was put in place for the Sabine River North of Shell Island and will be closed off to all commercial and recreational traffic through August 21, 2025. During this time, Troy Construction will be installing a pipeline across the waterway from Shell Island to the marsh line as seen in the image attached.
All traffic, commercial and recreational, will be unable to transit through this area during the project. That includes the waterways in the marsh where the purple line crosses. The construction barges in this area will be lit and the entrance to the pass will have piles that contain warning signage. Mariners are urged to proceed with caution and at safe speeds, and to report any hazards or safety concerns directly to MSU Port Arthur for the duration of the project.
