The Sabine River has started to go down in Deweyville, but will remain in the moderate flood stage through the weekend.
The river at Deweyville, which is in Newton County, crested Tuesday afternoon at 27.14 feet.
However, the Orange County Emergency Management Office reports a number of roads in the east and west part of the county, where the Neches River is flooded, remain covered by water. The office reminds people not to drive on flooded roads.
Emergency Management and the sheriff’s office on Monday used drone surveillance to check on the roads. Orange County still has sand and bags at the Precinct 1, 3, and 4 service barns. People should bring their own shovels.
The Neches River, which affects the Vidor area, on Tuesday afternoon was at 8.46 feet at the Saltwater Barrier. The Neches is expected to crest at 8.5 feet.
The Sabine River in downtown Orange is not expected to reach the flood stage of 4 feet, but is forecast to go to 3.5 feet, depending on tides.
Toledo Bend Reservoir Tuesday afternoon was at 172.77 feet, and is considered full at 172 feet. The 11 spillway gates were still opened at three feet wide, down from four feet open.
