Retired teacher Bettie J. Curtis will be honored Saturday night with the Legends Award at the Second Annual Blossoming Minds MLK Gala at the Orange County Expo Center.
The sold-out black-tie event pays tribute to local leaders, volunteers, and service organizations. Mrs. Curtis taught more than a half century at Orange schools, beginning at the old Wallace High School in the days of segregation and she finished her career after some 40 years at West Orange-Stark High School.
The gala begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with a mixer and the program will start at 6:30 p.m.
