Update: The evacuation order was lifted at 12:30am. Evacuated residents can return home.
Firefighters were back in the woods Sunday fighting a wildfire. This time in north Orange County near the Jasper County line.
The fire is believed to have started Sunday around noon at the end of Blankenship Rd. which is located off of Texla Rd (FM 2802).
Firefighters with water hoses, bulldozers and air support attacked the blaze, said to be as large as 400-500 acres, into the night. The smoke plume, reportedly, could be seen as far away as Fannett.
Evacuations were called for Blankenship, East of FM 105 from Corrigan Drive to Texla Road, Corrigan Road, Dixie Drive, Rebel Road, Shenandoah Drive, Shiloh Ridge Road, Eaves Road and Cole Road.
Around 9:30pm Orange County Emergency Service Director Joel Ardoin told KOGT that the fire was about 40% contained and many of the area firefighters were released while the Texas Forestry Service remained through the night, cutting a fire break path. Containment is not measured of how much fire is extinguished but rather how much of a perimeter line crews established around the fire’s path of spread.
