No serious injuries were reported in a two-car collision that happened on 16th Street Thursday after a car backing out of a parking lot went across lanes of traffic and hit a car stopped for a traffic light. The 83-year-old man driving the Chevrolet Lumina that was in reverse gear told Orange police that his brakes didn’t work. He thinks the accelerator also stuck. Police did not see skid marks.
The accident was about 11:20 Thursday morning on the intersection of 16th Street at the Interstate 10 access road on the south side of the overpass. The man was backing from an insurance business on the west side of 16th Street as a 65-year-old woman in a Mercury Mariner was stopped near the Mexican restaurant on the east side of 16th Street. The man’s Lumina had to be towed from the scene.
