Eleven year old Mattie Purgahn of Orange has had a busy summer on the links. Her play has qualified her for the Southern Texas PGA Junior Championship at The Woodlands this week. In July alone she played five tournaments with two firsts, two seconds, and a fifth place finish.
The Little Cypress Intermediate fifth grader also won the first round in the 10/11 age group of the Drive, Chip and Putt Qualifier out of 17 girls. This a skills competition for kids that’s held throughout the nation. Monday, Purgahn finished second at Regionals in New Orleans held at the TPC Louisiana Course. Her second place finish qualified her for the semifinals which will be held in Houston in September at the Carlton Woods Golf Course. A win there would send her to the finals in Augusta, home of The Masters.
Mattie is taking after her father Matt, who has had success on the GolfAm Tour, recently finishing second at The Hill Country Classic in La Cantera.
