Drainage improvements are being done all over Orange County and that includes in the City of Orange. One location is the ditch adjacent to the Oak Creek Residential addition off of Meeks Drive.
Harvey flooded the homes in Oak Creek in 2017. Clearing out the ditch and paving in the sides is hoped to alleviate the threat of flooding in the future.
Orange City Manager Mike Kunst credits Public Works Director Jim Wolf with the idea to pave the ditch. “He’s just very knowledgeable, he’s a blessing to the City of Orange, so I’m going to give him all that credit. It was him being an engineer that led to the plan to pave the ditch,” Kunst informed.
Kunst and Wolf are open to the public for their suggestions of where to address drainage issues. Kunst said, “One of our jobs is to listen to people so when they identify some of these areas, Jim can go in there and say how do we bring some relief to this neighborhood or sub-division.”
A similar drainage project was completed last year with the paving of Cooper’s Gully on the east side of Orange. That is expected to help with the drainage for that part of the city.
