The pooping perpetrator has pleaded guilty to burglary and a state district judge will decide his punishment.
Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office tracked down the burglar after finding human feces on the floor of a house that had the front door kicked it. A number of items had been stolen.
Walker said the burglary was at a house on FM 1442 on April 11, 2013. At the time, a number of houses in an area along Interstate 10 had been hit by thieves kicking in doors. When investigators from the sheriff’s office went to the house, they found the poop and collected it for evidence.
Walker said the laboratory process took a while, but eventually DNA was extracted from the feces. Investigators then ran the DNA through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice computer codex. All prisoners have their DNA put into the system.
A match was found in the system and investigators then were able to get a search warrant to collect DNA from 22-year-old Edward Wayne Tezeno of Beaumont.
At the time, Tezeno was in the Chambers County Jail for burglary, Walker said. The fecal DNA was matched with the DNA taken from Tezeno.
163rd State District Judge Dennis Powell has set a hearing for April 14 to decide a punishment. Walker said Tezeno has a conviction for aggravated assault in Jefferson County.
