The 2018 political season will officially get underway on Saturday as candidates for public office will file with party chairs to run in the March 6 primary races. Filing will end on December 11.
The winners of the primary races will be on the ballots for the general election next November.
Locally, three seats on the Orange County Commissioners Court will be on the ballot. Terms expiring at the end of 2018 are County Judge Brint Carlton, Precinct 2 Commissioner Barry Burton and Precinct 4 Commissioner Jody Crump.
Also the four precinct justices of the peace will be on the ballot along with the district clerk and 260th State District Court.
David Covey is the new chair of the Orange County Republican Party after Sheila Faske resigned. Debra Mitchell is the Orange County Democratic Party chair. Candidates for state and national offices file with the state parties in Austin.
February 5 will be the last day to register to vote in the primary races. Early voting will run February 20 through March 2.
