A person wearing a dinosaur head broke into the Palais Royal store in Northway Shopping Center and stole a few items.
Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said he has seen a lot of face coverings during his career, but never a dinosaur head. Detectives have dubbed the crook “Kleptosaurus Rex.”
The burglar broke into the door of a vacant shop space next to Palais Royal and then kicked in the sheetrock wall to get inside the store, Enmon said.
A store surveillance video shows the person putting on a woman’s dress inside the store. Enmon said he thinks the “Kleptosaurus Rex” is a man, but he is not sure.
Another camera angle shows the crook grabbing cell phone cases and a child’s watch. “The damage to the wall was more than what was stolen,” Enmon said.
The break-in was discovered about 8 a.m. Tuesday by an employee of the shopping center who noticed the door damage to the vacant shop. The employee went inside to check and saw the damage to the wall.
Anyone with information about the break-in should contact the Orange Police Department Detective Division at 409-883-1095.
