Colorful new playground equipment for Sunset Park has arrived, but children may not get to play on it by Christmas because of the weather. City of Orange workers need to assemble the slides, climbing bars and other gear. Rain is in the forecast for the week and the workers won’t be able to set up the playground.
The city in October ordered the $41,000 equipment to replace old playground that was worn and becoming hazardous. The city is also planning a small skate park the site along 16th Street.
Money for the improvements is coming through federal Community Development Block grants because the park is in a low-income neighborhood.
