The first River Bowl against Evadale inflicted the first loss of the season on the Deweyville Pirates. Coach Lance Dale indicates that is only one game and that does not make a season for Deweyville. Dale states, “The Pirates’ attitudes are great, they know what their goal is and what they’ve got to do to get there and they are on track to make the playoffs.”
This week Deweyville travels to Galveston to play the O’Connell Buccaneers. Dale provided the details of the Bucs’ offense. They run the Spread while trying to spread opposing defenses in order to run the football. Their best athlete is their quarterback who is very elusive and can run the ball well according to Dale. He is the leader for the O’Connell Buccaneers.
On the other side of the ball Coach Dale gives the scouting report on the defense O’Connell uses. The Buccaneers are based out of a 50 Defense. If you hurt them with a play Dale says their answer is to send some linebackers, so they will stunt as well.
Dale has confidence in his Pirates that they will bounce back this week and get another win against the Buccaneers. Eliminating the turnovers is the key for the Pirates as they had too many last week in the River Bowl Dale admits. Deweyville needs to cut down on penalties as they plagued the Pirates against Evadale. Finally, the Pirates need to do a better job of tackling.
Coach Dale promises Deweyville is going to work hard this week, keep a good attitude, and remember its goal is to make the playoffs. The coach believes in his team as they try to pick up win number three on the season.
Friday night the Deweyville Pirates play on the road at Galveston against the O’Connell Buccaneers. The kickoff will be at 7:30 PM.
