The cities of Pinehurst and West Orange will be able to cancel their municipal elections because there are no contested races in either city. The deadline for filing was Friday of last week.
City Secretary Debbie Cormier reported only incumbents Dan Mohon, T. W. Permenter, and Sarah McLendon filed for the three seats on the Pinehurst City Council. Cormier indicated the municipal election in Pinehurst will be cancelled at the next City Council meeting scheduled for March 14. She estimated earlier cancelling the election will save the city about $4,000.
Theresa Van Meter the City Secretary for West Orange said Roy McDonald is unopposed for another term as mayor. Incumbents Dr. Frances Droddy-Lopez and Carl Thibodeaux are the only two candidates for 2 seats on the West Orange City Council. Mayor McDonald stated at the last City Council meeting that West Orange would save about $5,000 by cancelling its election.
