The City of Pinehurst should have a new interim fire chief as early Thursday night. The City Council will hold a special session to approve the recommendation of the City Administrator Jerry Hood to fill the position of Fire Chief for the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department.
Former Fire Chief Shon Branham and all but one volunteer resigned together from the fire department on July 27. The reason given was a disagreement between Branham and Hood on which emergency calls the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department would be allowed to respond to dispatcher calls.
Hood has requested the lone volunteer that did not resign Giron Hadnott who serves as the Fire Marshal for Pinehurst to recruit new volunteers for the department. The City Council is expected to approve the naming of a new interim fire chief and an interim assistant fire chief. Hood will meet with the those two to place permanent officers and staff into position until the next election can be conducted by the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department.
The teleconference concerning the appointments will follow a budget workshop that starts at 5:30 Thursday afternoon. The City Council will receive the property tax documents from the Orange County Tax Assessor-Collector and will discuss the budget for fiscal year 2020-2021.
