Tuesday night at the Pinehurst City Council meeting, council accepted the official resignation former Police Chief/City Administrator Stephen Stroud. Stroud had been placed on leave following several issues involving him and the way he ran the department.
One longtime Pinehurst citizen, Lee Hayes, spoke during citizen comment and was very upset that the city was giving Stroud a severance package for doing such a bad job and putting the city in a tough situation. Hayes said in less than a year Stroud destroyed a department that had some really good officers.
Council also voted to hire Robbie Hood (below) as full time City Administrator but they are still searching for a new police chief. Charles Spain, a Pinehurst Waste Water Supervisor, recently completed the Police Academy and was sworn in by Captain Hollyfield. Spain will continue as a supervisor with the city and also fill in with the police department.
Council put a 90 day moratorium on RV Parks located inside the city limits because they currently do not have an ordinance. They will use the 90 days to create one. Hood also announced the city is creating a reinvestment zone.
