The City Council in Pinehurst approved Tuesday keeping the same tax rate for next year. The proposed tax rate of 69.799 cents per 100 dollars value has not been changed in four years and actually represents a 1¾ percent decrease in the effective tax rate. Because there is not an increase in the effective tax rate no public hearing is necessary. The date of a public hearing on the budget will be September 13 during the next City Council meeting.
Rates for Pinehurst city services such as solid waste disposal, brush and limb removal, and commercial container service will go up by 3 percent. The increase reflects a similar increase the city is being charged by Republic Services which handles waste removal in Pinehurst.
The council awarded the Pinehurst employees’ insurance plans for next year based on recommendations from T K Health insurance. The Texas Municipal League will continue to handle the health insurance for employees. Principal Insurance packaged their dental and vision insurance plans for a greatly reduced rate and will also continue to provide life insurance for the employees.
