The second annual Teddy Bear Clinic at Orangefield Elementary was a success. First graders were excited for their stuffed animals to receive a check-up from HOSA-Future Health Professional students and tour an ambulance. Former School Building Burns
A wooden structure used for classrooms near the former West Orange Cove Intermediate School, burned Thursday night. West Orange Fire Chief David Roberts said firefighters were at the site of the former Baptist Hospital putting a burn victim in a helicopter when they got the call of a trash fire in the city. Firefighters broke away with a truck and headed to Austin Street where they found more than a trash fire. The building was fully engulfed. Great day for Orange County baseball and softball as all of our local teams put a W in the playoff win column. Bridge City got it started with a 4-3 win in a one game series against Hudson. Starting pitcher Max Pachar got the complete game win. After giving up a homerun in the first inning and two singles, the Cardinal offense helped him settle in with three runs in the bottom of the first. Tippins, Morrow Compete At State
LCM junior Dinah Tippins laced them up one more time this season as she ran in the 4A 200 meters at the State Track Meet in Austin. The speedster broke her own school record, running 24.60 and finishing sixth overall. Zach Morrow of Orangefield, making his second appearance at State in the pole vault, also finished sixth. Elmore Confirmed As President
The Board of Regents of the Texas State University System has confirmed Wendy Elmore, Ed.D., as the fifth president of Lamar State College Orange (LSCO). The unanimous vote occurred during the board’s quarterly meeting at Texas State University in San Marcos. She will assume office on June 1. Judy Kay Hughes – aka JuJu, 73, passed away on April 5, 2025. Born on January 21, 1952, she was the daughter of Noble Chester Hughes and Charlie Mae Hughes. Judy served briefly in the Army National Guard. She loved her family. Judy loved cooking, and we were lucky to have had many of her dinners. Gumbo was one of her favorites to make. She enjoyed going to thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets. Judy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Thursday, May 1, 2025, on Farm-to-Market Road 1006 in Orange. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approxiamtley 6:30 a.m., a 2019 Ford passenger car and a vehicle described as a dark colored pickup were traveling west on F.M. 1006, while a 2025 Chevrolet SUV and a 2015 Dodge passenger car were traveling east. Grand Jury Indicts BC Woman
A Jefferson County Grand Jury has indicted a Bridge City woman for assaulting a police officer and possession. On Feb. 14 Beaumont Police located Karsyn Mae Moore, 24, in the 3800 block of Grand Ave. in Beaumont. She was wanted for questioning by Bridge City Police. When police located her in her 2006 Chevy Cobalt, they also located marijuana in plain view in the floorboard of the vehicle. When she was being place under arrest she began to resist and assaulted the officer by kicking him and causing pain according to court documents.
