Wednesday evening the SETCA All-Star baseball and softball game were played and Orange County brought home two MVP honors. Vidor's Alex Parish and Bridge City's Kyleigh Hamilton were named MVP's for their play in the game. Verna Glee Aldrich Evans entered heaven on June 3, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in 1929 in Beaumont, Texas, she graduated from French High School in 1947 and later attended Chenier Business School. Fight Outside Of Courtroom
On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 11:20 a.m., a disturbance involving several individuals occurred outside of County Court at Law #2 in Orange. Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly to the scene and were able to quickly control the situation, separating the involved parties. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made at this time. The incident remains under review. Body Found In Backyard (Update)
UPDATE: officers located a deceased male, identified as 75-year-old Thomas Widdifield, a white male resident. Orange Police were called around 1pm to someone finding a body in the backyard of a home Wednesday. OPD arrived at a home in the 1600 block of 10th St. where they found a white male. He was pronounced deceased by Judge Stagner and an autopsy was ordered. A neighbor who found him said it was the man that lived at the home. It is unknown how long he had been there. Become A Master Gardener
The Master Gardener training classes will begin on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 6:00 pm at the Expo Center on 1442. The requirements for the certification are 50 hours of education and 50 hours of volunteer time. The classes will meet on Thursdays with speakers and programs about gardening that count for the 50 hours of education. There are several field trips planned as well. The volunteer time can be done by working at the Master Gardener greenhouse, working at the yearly plant sale, and other AgriLife programs throughout the year. Bobcat Camp A Success
The first ever Bobcat Tennis Camp came to a close on Wednesday and it was an overwhelming success. OHS high school athletes and coaches were able to share their love for the game with children of so many different skill levels and ages. Groups were divided into four groups by age and had current Bobcat Tennis team members help them learn to how to hit forehands, backhands, serves, and volleys.
