He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and went directly to Vietnam, training as a door gunner on Huey helicopters. After being shot and recovering, Bill resumed his duty on the Huey, and several months later, went down with his chopper crew. Sallie Christine Turner, 82, of Orange, Texas, passed away on June 6, 2025, at Calder Woods in Beaumont. Born in Nahunta, Georgia, on March 3, 1943, she was the daughter of Walter Charlie Screws and Bertha (Glisson) Screws. Christine was a kind and loving wife to her husband, and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. Weekly Fishing Report Week of June 11, 2025 Sabine LakeGOOD. 82 degrees. West winds shut the bite off last weekend, but as the winds switch back to south and southeast expect the bite resume at the jetties. There is a good early morning and midday bite at the ends of the jetties for limits of trout on the shell flats and catches of redfish on bulkheads and points with live shrimp on a popping cork. Numbers of drum and some sheepshead can be caught on the rocks with Carolina rigs with light weights. Nice catches of flounder in the channel with dark plastic jigs tipped with shrimp. Theodore "Ted" Selman, age 74, of Orange, Texas, passed away at his home on June 10, 2025. Ted was born on October 9,1950 to Jim Ben Selman and Mollie Belile Selman. He was a lifelong Orange resident with many hobbies, including playing guitar, welding, learning foreign languages, and history. Governor Greg Abbott announced June 12 that four career training grants totaling $794,546 have been awarded to four schools in Southeast Texas to train students for high-demand, good-paying jobs after graduation.
