by Sheriff Colton Havard Public Intoxication Arrest in Deweyville: On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:54 a.m., deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling County Road 4213 in Deweyville when they conducted a pedestrian stop on a white female, identified as Cori Leigh Cole. While speaking with Cole, deputies observed signs of intoxication. Cole was uncooperative with deputies and told them, “Just take me to jail”. The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on state Highway 62, south of Farm-to-Market Road 1130, that occurred Sunday, July 6, 2025. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 9:25 p.m., a 2016 Honda Accord was traveling south, while a 2020 Buick SUV was traveling north. It is reported that the Honda traveled into the oncoming lane and struck the Buick head-on.
