A native and lifelong resident of Orange, Red spent many years working as a dedicated longshoreman. Known for his witty sense of humor, generous heart, and fiercely competitive spirit, he lived life with energy and warmth. July 28, 2025Sheriff Havard's Report Family Violence Arrest in Burkeville:On Monday, July 21, 2025, Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence off County Road 2116 in Burkeville, in reference to a disturbance. Cyclist Struck On FM 105
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating an auto-pedestrian crash on Farm-to-Market Road 105, near Farm-to-Market Road 1132, that occurred Sunday, July 27, 2025. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 11:51 a.m., a Ford F-150 was traveling south. It is reported that a bicyclist was traveling on the improved shoulder, crossed the street in front of the Ford and was struck by the Ford’s passenger side mirror. Dobson’s Talons Win Title
The inaugural season of the Athlete's Unlimited Softball League is in the books after the Talons swept the Bandits in a best of three series over the weekend. After winning the regular season title, the Talons beat the Bandits 3-1 in Game 1 and 1-0 in Game 2 following a couple rain delays. Sydney Romero hit a solo shot in the sixth that proved to be the game winner while Montana Fouts pitched a complete game shutout. The most unique fishing tournament in the area will be taking place Saturday, August 2 as the 37th Annual OCARC Fishing Tournament gives anglers of all ages a chance to win cash and great prizes. Saturday afternoon a woman hit the gas instead of the brake at the CVS Pharmacy on Strickland in Pinehurst. Her vehicle jumped the curb and destroyed an LP Exchange Rack.
