One Man Killed In Boating Accident
Shortly after 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 29, Texas Game Wardens were contacted by the Orange County Sheriff's Department in regards to a reported boating accident on the Sabine River involving a recreational vessel and a commercial barge. Texas Game Wardens, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene located on the Sabine River/Gulf Intracoastal Waterway halfway between Cow Bayou and Adams Bayou. The Lamar State College Orange Dental Assisting Program was the recipient of equipment from a local dentist. Dr. Chris Riedel of Horizon Dental donated four dental assistant chairs to the program. Ann Miller Burns, 86, of Orange, Tx., passed away on July 21, 2025, in an automobile accident in Newton County. Her husband, Charles Basil Burns, 90, died July 24, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Tx as a result of this same accident. Ann was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi Jan 3, 1939.
