Lynn Douglas “Doug” McDaniel, 85, of Jasper, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Deweyville, Texas. Doug was born on July 29, 1940 in DeQuincy, Louisiana. For the majority of his life, he proudly called Deweyville home. He was profoundly invested in the community and held deep pride of his Hryhorchuk family roots. by Sheriff Colton Havard Stolen Property recovered in the Biloxi Community:On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a resident reporting a theft in progress at his home in the 11000 block of FM 1416 in the Biloxi Community. The caller informed NCSO dispatchers that he was pursuing the suspect and eventually chased him into a nearby hunting club, where he lost sight of him. Man Shot On Sunday (Update)
UPDATE: On Monday OPD said the male victim was located in the living room of the residence and sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim reported that he was shot while entering his home. The victim is reported to be in stable condition and is cooperating with law enforcement. - One man was taken to the hospital after being shot Sunday evening in Orange.
