by Sheriff Robert Burby Calls To Service (May 6, 2024, to May 12, 2024): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 67 calls to service. Jail Transports: NCSO had 6 jail transports; 2 from NCSO to JCSO, 2 from NCSO to Beauregard, 2 from NCSO to Mental Health facilities. Jail Population: We currently have 29 inmates in the following jails; 13 housed in Newton, 7 housed in Beauregard, and 9 housed in Jasper. LCM student Mariska Steele received a scholarship from CrimeStoppers this week in a ceremony at the Foundation for Southeast Texas Auditorium. Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas offers a limited number of $1,000 Larry Beaulieu Scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors whose parent, step-parent, or legal guardian is a law enforcement officer in the organization's service area.
